Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Sturgeon County strongly believes in the well being of its employees and is committed to helping employees maximize their human potential by providing an Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

The County’s EAP is administrated by a company called Shepell FGI, and is a voluntary confidential counselling and referral service for employees and their immediate family members. (Family members – spouse and dependents as defined in our benefit plan – are eligible to use the EAP).

The program is designed to help employees with personal or work-related problems, pressures and stress before serious difficulties occur.

Health and Safety

Sturgeon County is committed to a health and safety program that protects staff, our property (buildings, equipment, vehicles, etc.), other workers and the general public who enter onto our property and worksites. Our goal is a healthy, injury free workplace for all employees. By working together in all parts of this program, we can achieve this goal.

Health & Safety Program Manual

Vision:

To create and sustain a culture where effective health and safety is an integral part of every task and jobsite.

Mission:

To foster a safe and efficient workplace by providing support and training to all employees, public and contractors.

Partnerships in Health and Safety Program

Partnerships in health and safety programs are based on the premise that when employers and workers voluntarily build effective health and safety programs in their own workplaces, the human and financial costs of workplace injuries and illnesses will be reduced. The Alberta Human Resources & Employment, Workplace Health & Safety department believes that supporting health and safety programs leads to larger reductions in injuries.

Through partnerships with safety associations, industry groups, education institutes and labour organizations, a framework has been established to promote and certify health and safety programs.

A Certificate of Recognition (COR) is given to employers who develop health and safety programs that meet established standards. Certificates are issued by Certifying Partners and are co-signed by Alberta Human Resources and Employment.

Achieving and maintaining a valid COR is required for earning a financial incentive through the Partners in Injury Reduction program. Also, it is not unusual for Alberta corporations to expect contractors bidding on projects to hold a valid COR.

Sturgeon County has a Health and Safety Management System and its purpose is to identify, assess and control workplace hazards. To be effective, the following components are essential:

  • analysis of health and safety hazards at the work site
  • control measures to eliminate or reduce risks of hazards
  • clearly-stated company policy and management commitment
  • worker competency and training
  • an inspection program
  • emergency response planning
  • incident investigation
  • program administration

Workplace Violence

Sturgeon County is committed to providing employees with safe and secure work environment free of the risks associated with workplace violence. Behaviour such as intimidation, threats, harassment, abuse, injure or victimization will not be tolerated. Appropriate steps will be taken to protect employees from the potential risks associated with any workplace violence.

Work Life Balance
