Animal Control Services

Dog Bylaw 1269/11 was amended on March 13, 2012 and now applies to all multi-lot subdivisions and hamlets within the County. Every resident being the owner of a dog residing in all multi-lot subdivisions and hamlets, is now required to obtain a license by applying through the County office.
2013 dog licenses are available December 1, 2012 at a cost of $20.00 for neutered males and spayed females OR $30.00 for unneutered males and unspayed females. Application forms are available on the forms page under "Protective Services."
Payments can be made at Sturgeon County Centre or by phone with a valid credit card 780-939-4321 until January 31, 2013.

Changes to the Dog Bylaw
Dog owners in Sturgeon County have new rules to follow after Sturgeon County Council passed an amended Dog Bylaw on March 13, 2012, which aims to create safer neighbourhoods and walking trails. Bylaw 1269/11 now applies to all multi-lot subdivisions and hamlets within the County.

Licenses

Vicious Dogs
Bylaw 1269/11 now includes stricter guidelines for owners of dogs that are deemed “Vicious”, including mandatory confinement, control, signage, and licensing.

Nuisance Dogs
All Sturgeon County dog owners now face an offence and possible fine for allowing their dog to be a “nuisance”. Under Bylaw 1269/11.
Fines under this section range from $300 to $1,000.
