Councillor Karen Shaw was elected to her first term on Sturgeon County Council in 2007. She believes that community input is an important component of a strong and sustainable community and welcomes and encourages open dialogue with Sturgeon County residents. Councillor Shaw hosts regular "coffee meetings" in Redwater with residents in her Division to increase awareness about programs and services offered by the County, as well as discuss issues that are important locally.
Councillor Shaw lives on a 108-year old family farm with her husband, Stuart. Together, they have three children and five grandchildren. When she is away from Council Chambers, Councillor Shaw raises livestock and volunteers with numerous local agencies, including the Bon Accord 4H Beef Club. In her spare time, she spends time outdoors, playing sports and riding horses.
